Heavy Duty Toggle for 1/8″ Wire Rope – Type 316 Stainless Steel
This heavy duty toggle of ours is a great anchor option for one side of a cable railing system. The toggle is quite useful, you can use it on straight sections or when you have angled runs to install. We had them made with T316 steel so you can install them inside your home and/or outside. They are also great for commercial applications too.
Since these toggle terminals just anchor the cable, you’ll need to have a tensioner on the opposite end. Something like our Surface-mount Turnbuckle Tensioner (https://sa-materials.com/p/heavy-duty-turnbuckle-tensioner-with-deck-toggle-for-1-8-inch-cable-t316-steel/) is what pulls the cable tight and holds it there. Failure to incorporate a tensioner will leave you with saggy lines that won’t pass code.
Wondering what special tools you will need to get the install done? Anytime you deal with swage fitting a special cable swaging tool will be needed. We would suggest swaging each fitting 3 times to get a good hold. Make sure you also have a solid cable cutter tool on hand as well – If you don’t use a good cutter then cable ends can become fattened or uneven and that can make connecting them to hardware difficult.
Another important part of a cable railing is the wire itself. This heavy duty toggle tensioner was made to be used with 1/8″ steel cable. Our recommendation would be to use cable with 1×19 construction due to its great look. It is also a great option for handrails because the cable isn’t rough to the touch.
